Scope of this Policy
This policy explains how we handle personal data within our games on the Meta Quest platform, specifically in relation to leaderboard features.
Data We Collect and How We Collect It
We are committed to data minimization and collect only what is absolutely necessary. We collect and process one type of personal data:
- In-Game Username / Alias
How it is collected: When you choose to submit your score to an in-game leaderboard, your username is automatically sourced from your Meta Horizon Profile and sent to our leaderboard server along with your score. If you do not submit a score, we do not collect your username.
We do not collect or process any other personal data, such as your real name, email address, precise location, payment information, device identifiers, or contact lists.
Tip: To protect your privacy, we recommend choosing a username that does not include your real name or other personally identifiable information.
How We Use (Process) Your Data
We use your username for the following specific purposes:
- Leaderboard Display and Ranking: When you submit a score, your username is stored in our database and is publicly displayed next to your score or time within the game. This allows you to compare your performance with other players.
- Content Moderation: We reserve the right to review usernames on the leaderboard and remove any that violate our community standards (e.g., those containing offensive language, hate speech, or impersonation).
Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom (UK), we rely on the following legal bases under the GDPR / UK GDPR to process your data:
- Consent: By choosing to submit your score to a public leaderboard, you provide clear affirmative consent for us to display your username to other players.
- Legitimate Interests: We have a legitimate interest in operating a fair, competitive, and secure leaderboard system to enhance the player experience.
Data Sharing and Disclosure
- Public Display: Your username and score are publicly visible to other players of the game via the in-game leaderboard.
- Service Providers: We may use third-party hosting or platform services (data processors) to operate our leaderboards. These providers are contractually bound to act only on our instructions and are prohibited from using your data for their own purposes.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Your Data Protection Rights (Available to All Users)
We believe in providing all our users with control over their data, regardless of their location. You have the following fundamental rights:
- The Right to Access: You have the right to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you (i.e., your username and associated scores).
- The Right to Deletion (Erasure): You have the right to request that we permanently delete your username and associated scores from our leaderboards at any time.
To exercise these rights, please contact us here. We will process your request without undue delay.
Additionally, depending on your jurisdiction (such as in the EEA or UK), you may have other rights, including the right to rectification, the right to object to processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a local data protection authority (e.g., Ireland's Data Protection Commission).
How to Opt-Out or Request Removal
If you do not wish for your username to appear on the leaderboard, you can either:
- Refrain from submitting your scores to the leaderboard feature within the game; or
- Contact us here to request manual removal at any time.
Children's Privacy
Our games are intended for audiences that meet the minimum age requirements set by the Meta Quest platform. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below this age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child's data is on our leaderboards, please contact us immediately here so we can remove it.
Data Retention
We retain your username on the leaderboard for as long as the leaderboard feature is active in the game or until you request its removal. We may periodically prune old or inactive entries as part of routine database maintenance.
Security
We implement reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect the data we process from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by a revised "Effective date" and will be accessible from within our games or on our website.
